There is such a high percentage of children not making appropriate (what used to be called natural) progress that one has to start thinking about the causes.

From working and observing so many families doing individualised care and facility care it is now glaringly obvious to me that the approach of parents and inexperienced caregivers
as to how they care for children that is at the root cause of developmental delays.

If you miss the opportunity of observing such interactions from the earliest months to over a 2 or 3 year period you cannot have that wisdom.

I have conferred with experienced colleagues in early childhood in other countries and they agree with my opinion — it’s just politically incorrect to say that parents are the cause.

The one key thing that gets to me is that it is assumed that developmental delays are due to the parents. This is so far from the truth, you might get a better perspective you take a day and tag along with a early intervention educator. Though there are occasions where parental aspects are involved, but you see all the time where children who dont get great care are able to develope properly.

Do you know if this 9 month old has a medical condition that affects them? Did you know that 30% of special needs children don’t have a diagnosis for what is affecting there development. There is so much more to the picture that you might be interested in seeing.
